HOW BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA INSPIRED US IN THE DRAWING OF OUR PLAYGROUND
  • We've decided to make a tree house because the play area that Leslie and Jess made have been a very comforting place that they will be able to overcome their fear just like how Leslie and Jess overcome their obstacles in the forest.
  • We will also build a castle as it represents a sense of victory when the user reaches the highest point, which is in this case, the castle.
  • Apart from that, the flying fox will be built in between the tree house and the castle as a connection which represents Jess' and Leslie's differences.

LAYOUT OF PLAYGROUND

  • The flooring will be made of rubber as it is soft and less prone to children suffering injuries.
  • The surface area will be made of strong plastic because it would not corrode easily.
  • We will be using bright and vibrant colours to appeal to the users.
  • The rock climbing that we are going to built will be of different levels so that the user will slowly overcome their fears.

STRENGTHS:
  • The flooring is soft and safe.
  • Structure of playground is unique.
  • Has a variety of bright colours that will trigger one's mind.
  • Playground is enclosed and this prevents the open surface from being too hot or too wet. It also prevents children from getting sunburn. Apart from that, children will be especially watched as compared to a public playground whereby children might just roam around and get lost.

    WEAKNESSES:
  • The space is not wide enough for the children to roam around.
  • The playground is enclosed and therefore there is no 'freedom' for the children. It makes them feel trapped whereas a playground should make children feel 'free'.
  • Does not have an educational playing area whereby a child will be able to learn while at play.
STRENGTHS:
  • The playground have different stages of playing area and this can help children overcome their phobia of heights.
  • It is not enclosed. Therefore, implies that the child will have more freedom and feels less suffocated.
  • Has different shapes of slides and various stairs which allows quite a number of children to play at one time.

WEAKNESSES:

  • It is not very vibrantly coloured.
STRENGTHS:
  • Has a soft flooring (grass) to lessen the probabilities of injuries.
  • Consist of an educational playing area.
  • Has different heights of slides.
  • Has more than one way to climb up.
WEAKNESSES:
  • The highest stage of play area is too low for children to overcome their fear of heights.
  • Consists of only three to four colours.
  • Small playing area which only allows a few children to play at one time.

STRENGTHS:

  • There is a safe surface.
  • The ground is soft.
  • There are no sharp edges.
  • The playground is made of plastic not metal, which means it is very safe.

WEAKNESSES:

  • The chain supporting the swing does not look strong and this will cause the children playing on it to lose balance easily.
  • The play area is too cramped, therefore not many children can play on it at a time.
  • The colours of the playground are too dull and this may not attract children easily.
